Mamabear Leatherkraft is based in Woodside, CA, which is based smack-dab in the middle of Silicon Valley's peninsula, but it is also, and will forever remain "horse country". The brand name derives from the strength of the mother bear and my German roots; hence the "k" in craft.
My leather crafting journey began with a mounted archery clinic of all things. For those who don't know; mounted archery involves shooting a bow and arrow off horseback. I was immediately hooked by the sound of the arrow thwacking the target as my trusty horse and I cantered by. I got home from the clinic and thought I had to acquire all the tools I would require for the sport that very night. As I set out to find the perfect mounted archery quiver, I couldn't find what I was looking for. So, I decided to make one for myself. I began, like so many leather crafters, with the starter kit from Amazon and decided to make some simple stuff first: belts, wallets, a knife sheath. Then I made my first quiver. I had such a blast as I explored the craft; I was hooked. I began filling orders for friends, fixing saddles, and experimenting with new items to produce. Two sewing machines and a wall full of leather later, Mamabear Leatherkraft was born. I enjoy bringing new life to leather goods and creating new, special, one-of-a-kind creations.
